Jogja Days: GIMSCO
Happy monday fellas!
I know it's been (again) forever since I posted anything. I've been busy with all the preps for my exams. They are super, time-consuming. Also, I prepped for GIMSCO, which stands for "Gadjah Mada Indonesian Medical Science Olympiad." It's actually an anatomy olympiad, testing our basic anatomy as well as clinical anatomy. We registered as teams, and each team has two people. My university send away 4 teams, and I am in one of the teams. We didn't have much time to prepare for this. We only had around two weeks, and our minds are still split between focusing on the olympiad, and our endblock exam. But still, we tried our best :')
Anyway, the olympiad was held in the Faculty of Medicine, Gadjah Mada University, Yogyakarta. It was on the 5th-8th of December. It was hard, honestly. I had lots of pause moments, especially when dealing with tentamen exams (it's basically looking at a cadaver/corpse/human body parts and identifying what it is, or what clinical condition might result from damage to that area blablabla). But it was a fun experience though, especially meeting with lots of medical students, friends from all across Indonesia! It feels good to know that I'm not the only one sufferring from the olympiad lol.
We stayed at EDUhostel Jogja, which is like a cheap hostel for students/backpackers. Each room has six beds (arranged in bunk beds), two showers, and one toilet. The hostel provides breakfast, but it was not a buffet-like. Instead, there was someone in charge of giving us our meals, almost like a dormitory. Oh, and one of the things I like about the hostel is that, they have what I prefer to call as the 1,5 floor. It's basically between the lobby and the first floor, they have all the couches and pillows, wifi and TV. It's like a super big hangout spot, mostly used by us, participants, to study.
The university itself is pretty huge, and located in Kaliurang district, Yogyakarta. They have nice buildings, green campus area, and the weather was really nice. Their campus also provide bikes to cycle around the campus area. Ah, I envy them so much! Jakarta's really hot, and there's not much greens. So it's kinda impossible to cycle around campus.
Anyway skipping all the unimportant details, the olympiad was solely won by the University of Diponegoro from Semarang. And yes, they took everything they could take. 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and also best tentamen 1&2. I believe they prepped their best for this, and I know we also had different curriculums. They had one full year studying anatomy, while the rest of us got the anatomy split on different blocks. It was their win anw, congrats to Undip, you guys deserve it! :)
